If you’ve read Laurie Koensgen’s work, then you know what a gifted poet she is. Her latest chapbook, this clingstone love (Pinhole Poetry, 2025) probes life inside a long-term relationship—from a woman’s point of view. The poems are daring. Tender. Unsettling. Gorgeous. I’ve read the new collection more than once, and each time, her writing leaves me astonished.
It was my honour and pleasure to be asked to read along with Laurie and award-winning poet Nancy Huggett at the launch of this clingstone love on August 21, 2025.
The stellar turnout upstairs at the Great Canadian Theatre Company was—above all—a reflection of Laurie’s artistry. People know and love her writing. The full house was also a reflection of Laurie’s generosity of spirit. I was moved by how, throughout her reading, she seamlessly wove expressions of care and respect for other artists working in and beyond Ottawa.
It was a feminist event, and much fun. Many poets were in the house. We are a cross-pollinating bunch.
